Turner Leads Major Urban Initiative Turner was named by the Speaker of the House to head up a new national Saving America’s Cities working group to focus on improving economic development in cities. The group was charged with outlining a list of goals and principles to help urban America, tracking legislation that meets the goals of the group and working with committees and Chairmen to help influence the direction of the bills. The group will address brownfield redevelopment, public and market rate housing, job creation, historic preservation, and work to encourage private investment in urban areas. |
Biography
Mike Turner was elected to represent Ohio’s Third Congressional District in 2002, after more than a decade in public service, including two terms as mayor of Dayton.
Mike is a life long resident of the Dayton area. His parents, Ray and Vivian came to Dayton from Eastern Kentucky in the 1950s, several years before Mike and his sister were born. Mike’s father, Ray, worked at the General Motors plant in Dayton, retiring after 42 years as a member of IUE Local 801. Mike’s mother, Vivian, is a retired elementary school teacher from the Huber Heights School District. Mike and his wife Lori have been married for over 18 years and have two daughters, Jessica and Carolyn. read more
